Laptop Not Charging via USB-C? These 4 Causes Solve the Problem
Your laptop isn't charging via USB-C or only very slowly? We explain why and how to fix it.
USB-C is convenient – one cable for everything. But sometimes nothing happens when you plug it in. Here are the most common causes.
1. The Charger Has Too Few Watts
Not every USB-C charger can charge a laptop. An 18W smartphone charger won't cut it – you need at least 45W, better 65W with Power Delivery (PD).
2. The Cable Doesn't Support Power Delivery
Many USB-C cables only transfer data, not power. Look for cables that explicitly state "USB-C PD" or "100W" – then it works with your laptop too.
3. The Wrong Port on the Laptop
Some laptops have multiple USB-C ports, but only one of them supports charging. It's often the one with the small lightning bolt symbol next to it.
4. Firmware or Driver Problem
Rare, but possible: a firmware update has changed the charging control. Restart laptop, replug cable – sometimes that's enough.
At VELTELO you'll find GaN chargers with 65W and 100W PD – compatible with MacBook, Surface, Dell, and all USB-C laptops.
